The CRC Competition is a learning opportunity for all high school and CEGEP-level participants. During the preparation phase for the competition, participants will learn cooperation with their teammates as well as specific skills to work on their tasks. Founded in 2001, the CRC Competition has continued to introduce and allow participants to discover new interests. Categories worked on include a website which is designed, configured, and written from scratch, and a kiosk, overflowing with creative scenery, where the robot is kept during the competition. There is also a video with a skit explaining the context of the competition which allows participants to develop their media arts skills. In essence, participants will be exposed to engineering and construction, several different forms of arts, and various sciences, such as computer science. With all this knowledge gained through our efforts, we will certainly be ready to fend off any other threat in the future.
The location of the final showdown, the villains' lair, consists of two challenges. During Aria 2023, two teams, blue and yellow, with two robots each will compete against each other to score the highest number of points. All teams from every participating school will vie with each other for victory from February 16 to 18 at Curé-Antoine-Labelle High School.
Game pieces: There will be 60 game pieces (GPs) total on the playing field. They have 3 layers of wood, the top and bottom blue and yellow. 59 of the GPs have a regular black core and 1 has a red core (Red GP).
1. There are three towers, two of them of the same size (6 levels) and one taller (7 levels). To score points, place the GPs with your team colour facing up on the levels of the towers, from the bottom up. They must be horizontal and completely on the tower level for the points to count. The points depend on the level on which the GP is placed.
2. This is the aforementioned Red GP. When placed on the tower, depending on the level, it will award the same amount of points as a regular GP. However, once placed properly, the Red GP will render null all of the points scored by regular GPs on the levels below.
3. In the multiplier zone, there is a small platform where GPs can be stacked, both horizontally and vertically. The team with the tallest stack at the end of the heat will be awarded a 1.5x multiplier to their final score. The tower cannot be touching anything other than the pedestal it is stacked on.
The rewarded points per tower level are as follows:
Level | Points |
---|---|
1 | 10 pts |
2 | 20 pts |
3 | 40 pts |
4 | 80 pts |
5 | 160 pts |
6 | 320 pts |
7 | 640 pts |
A GP with a team's corresponding colour on the ground (Level 0) is counted for 35 points. | A heat lasts 5 minutes, during which the robots will be in movement and playing the game. The heat ends when the time is over. All robots must stop moving at this time and all points made after the heat ends will be invalidated. Once everything stops, the points are tallied up and rewarded to teams. |
